Opera on Tour: Little Miss Butterfly
Find out more!
Our Mission:
Opera is for Everyone! It is the goal of the Emerald City Opera Education & Community Outreach program to foster learning about opera and the vocal and performing arts. Children and adults of all ages will enrich their lives exploring the beauty, creativity and fun of this dramatic entertainment. By enhancing current local music programs with tailor-made services that meet the demographic needs of each community, everyone in Northwest Colorado will have the opportunity to experience the passion of opera.
Why bring opera into your school?
Recent studies exploring the impact of the arts on learning have stressed the importance of arts in education. These studies show that young people who have regular involvement in arts pursuits frequently develop superior skills in creativity and originality, expression of thoughts and ideas, imagination and elaboration, and in the organization of different kinds of meaning, insight and understanding. Many children would never be exposed to art forms like opera without such programs that we are able to bring into your school.

Opera on Tour: Little Miss Butterfly
An original story, set to familiar opera tunes, Little Miss Butterfly is designed to introduce opera to audiences both young and old. The 2007-08 Touring Opera Troupe presents a western story of the Monarch butterfly's life cycle. Set to familiar operatic tunes this entertaining program is fully costumed with props and piano accompaniment and is perfect for school assemblies or larger groups. Spectators will recognize the tale, yet be surprised and entertained by some very unusual twists. Performers are comprised of talented individuals from the greater Northwest Colorado community!
Opera in the Classroom: Opera-Toon-ity!
Opera-Toon-ity is an in-classroom introduction for elementary school audiences centered on active student participation. Using opera-based cartoon videos as a springboard for conversation the program teaches children what opera is, dispels myths, and provides an entry point to other aspects of opera, and its component arts. Several students are invited to dress-up in costumes and the entire class then sings in different characters.
Opera in the Community: OperAble
