UPDATED:

A driver died early Monday morning in a fiery crash on northbound Interstate 25 near Thornton, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Firefighters responded to the crash on northbound I-25, just south of 84th Avenue, at 4:18 a.m. Monday, according to Adams County Fire Rescue.

A car hit the highway’s side wall and caught fire on impact, fire officials said.

One person was inside the car at the time of the crash and died from their injuries, state patrol spokesperson Gabriel Moltrer said.

The victim will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

The crash and emergency responders temporarily blocked the two right lanes of northbound I-25 between U.S. 36 and exit 219 for 84th Avenue, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

All lanes had reopened by 9 a.m. Monday.

The cause of the crash and the events leading up to it remain unknown, Moltrer said.
